UPDATE MISSING PERSON – ANDREW ROBINSON

On the 30th of December, 2024, the Northumberland Ontario Provincial Police notified the Belleville Police Service that a deceased male was located in the town of Brighton. Shortly before 4:00 p.m., OPP received a report from CN Police regarding an individual found in the area of the train tracks near Ontario Street in Brighton, Ontario. The deceased male has been identified as missing Belleville, Ontario resident Andrew Robinson by the coroner’s office. The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit, Forensic Identification Services (IDENT), in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario, is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the death. A post-mortem examination is to be conducted by the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Kingston. Police at this time do not believe the death to be suspicious. Back to News

Child luring investigation leads to arrest and charges

On the 20th of November 2024, the Belleville Police Service received a call from a mother of an 11-year-old girl after discovering conversations, which appeared to be grooming in nature, on Tik Tok as well as in text messages between her daughter and a male who appeared to be 24-years old.  Members of the Belleville Police Service’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation and as a result on the 11th of December, 24-year-old Travis Layzell of Bancroft was arrested without incident. Layzell was charged with adult luring a person under 16 years of age by telecommunications and held for a bail hearing on the 12th of December.  Police believe that Layzell may have attempted to contact other young females.  His TikTok display name was “clean 5.3” with the associated username of “that_stock_5.3_guy”. Belleville Police Service launched Military Veteran Wellness program

The Belleville Police Service is proud to announce the launch of the Military Veterans Wellness Program (MVWP), a ground-breaking initiative aimed at providing critical support to military veterans in our community. This program, developed by the Toronto Police Military Veterans Association (TPMVA), Royal Canadian Legion (RCL), Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC), and the Operational Stress Injury Social Support (OSISS) program, aims to enhance support for military veterans and increase training and awareness opportunities for law enforcement to assist veterans in crisis. Launched in the summer of 2022 and endorsed by Solicitor General Michael Kerzner, Ministry of the Solicitor General, the MVWP is designed to equip frontline officers with the necessary awareness and training to better recognize and understand military veterans’ issues. Project Renewal Drug Arrests

Four people were arrested and charged with drug-related offences following the execution of a warrant at a North Front Street business, Thursday. Shortly before 1 p.m. members of the joint police team Project Renewal, along with the Belleville Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Belleville Police Service K9 Unit executed the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act warrant at a room at a motel located at 325 North Front Street known as The Traveler’s Inn.  The targets of this warrant were known to be selling narcotics to the local homeless community. RIDE Launch 2024

Festive RIDE launches with MADD support   The Belleville Police Service is proud to announce the launch of this year’s Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) program, aimed at ensuring the safety of our community on local roadways during the holiday season. This initiative will run throughout the festive period, focusing on preventing impaired driving and promoting road safety. In a new partnership, the Belleville Police Service has teamed up with the Quinte Chapter of MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving).
